Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
On Thanksgiving Day, 2007, my grandson Benjamin was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He had just celebrated his first birthday one month earlier! His first and last traditional Birthday cake.
Benny may look like other children, but his life will forever be very different.
Unlike Type 2 diabetes, he cannot change his diet, nor can more exercise to rid his body of diabetes. His pancreas doesn't make insulin anymore. Benny gets injected with isulin several times a day so he can live! Benny's blood is tested 7 times a day and recieves up to 9 additional injections of insulin daily! And some days his 'sugar' drops so low he is in danger of slipping away. All attempts so far have failed to 'control' his diabetes. He is so little he cannot tell us how he feels.
All my life I've heard we are just 10 years from a cure. I am 58. Please help make this happen in my lifetime! Not for me, but for all the children like Benny. No child should have to live from injection to injection.
